Guardians get big win, 10,000th in franchise history

Now that’s more like it. The Guardians got great starting pitching, some timely hitting, and solid defense.

The result: A 6-1 win over the San Diego Padres on Aug. 15 that ended a two-game losing streak and, oh by the way, was the 10,000th win in franchise history.
Cleveland is the 11th franchise in MLB history to win 10,000 games, but just third in American League history. The Yankees and Boston both have more than 10,000 wins.
Joey Cantillo started and was fantastic. He allowed just one hit and one run over six innings, striking out seven and walking three.
Patrick Bailey’s RBI double in the second inning gave Cleveland a 2-1 lead. Steve Kwan, Chase DeLauter and Jo Adell had two hits each for Cleveland, which improved to 60-64 on the year.
Travis Bazzana had the defensive play of the game in the seventh inning. He made a diving stop on a ball hit to his right off the bat of Manny Machado; after tumbling to field the ball, Bazzana was able to throw Machado out.
A big crowd of 35,153 was on hand.
San Diego fell to 66-58 with the loss.
