Guardians down Detroit
The streaking Guardians won their fourth straight game as they knocked off Detroit, 8-2, on the road on May 18.
Slade Cecconi won his third straight decision and improved to 3-4 on the year. Cecconi went 7 1/3 innings and allowed two earned runs on five hits and struck out four.
Cleveland is 27-22 on the year and two games in front of the White Sox.
Jose Ramirez had three hits, including his eighth home run, and drove in three runs to lead the Cleveland offense. Ramirez has been on a tear since he was moved into the No. 2 spot in the lineup, and rookie Chase DeLauter was moved into the No. 3 spot.
DeLauter drove in two runs for a Cleveland offense that collected eight hits and walked seven times.
It was a great day for Angel Martinez, who collected two hits and drove in a run and scored a run on the day he learned he had been named American League Player of the week.
