Houston breaks out in win over Guards

There is a saying in MLB that you just flush the bad outings. Cleveland will do just that after the Guardians were trounced by by Houston, 9-2, on April 20 at Progressive Field.

Cleveland left 12 men on base and starting pitcher Slade Cecconi got roughed up in the blowout loss to Houston. Cecconi was touched up for two home runs including a first-inning two-run home run off the bat of Christian Walker. The homer ended an 0-for-15 slump by Walker. Houston third baseman Isaac Paredes also feasted on Guardians pitching, socking a pair of home runs. It was Paredes first two home runs of the season.

Jose Ramirez, who earlier in the day was named AL Player of the Week, scored both Cleveland runs and doubled. Brayan Rocchio continued his scorching ways with the bat with three more hits. Cleveland left 12 men on base and just could not come up with the big hit.

The two teams return to action tonight. It should be another chilly night. Last night's game was played with temps in the 30s. Players and fans alike were all bundled up.

I watched the last four or so innings on the tube. No Rick Manning in the booth.

Cleveland fell to 13-11 with the loss and Houston improved to 9-15. Parker Messick pitches today for Cleveland. His last start he almost threw a no-hitter.
